Camera microSD cards: exact series and capacity checks
On this page
Choose the card by exact series and capacity, then check your camera hardware limit. TP-Link tested the three combinations below, but a series name alone does not qualify every capacity or every card sold under it.
Three documented endurance-card combinations
TP-Link's tested-card list names these combinations for Tapo and Kasa cameras. The published results concern that series and capacity. They do not authenticate a card from a particular seller or establish a recording duration for your scene.
| Series | Tested capacity | Published class | What to match |
|---|---|---|---|
| SanDisk High Endurance | 128 GB | U3, V30, SDXC1 | High Endurance, rather than another SanDisk series |
| Samsung PRO Endurance | 64 GB | U1, SDXC1 | PRO Endurance and the exact capacity |
| SanDisk MAX Endurance | 32 GB | U3, V30, SDHC1 | MAX Endurance, rather than High Endurance |
TP-Link recommends endurance cards for repeated video writing. Its list does not give exact manufacturer part numbers for these rows. We treat a matching series and capacity as a starting point, with card identity and the seller still to check. The optional buying links below identify separately checked High Endurance 128 GB, MAX Endurance 32 GB and US-model PRO Endurance 64 GB destinations. Their exact series, capacity and manufacturer part numbers remain separate. Confirm the selected seller, card identity and purchase terms on Amazon; the link does not authenticate the unit supplied.
Check the camera before the card
Find the model and hardware version on the camera label. Open the corresponding product support page and confirm its capacity limit. TP-Link's general guidance says Tapo models may support up to 512 GB and Kasa models up to 256 GB, with model and hardware exceptions. A general ceiling is not a promise that an older camera accepts that size.
The C120, C210 and C225 pages separate their documented camera facts from seller checks. The newer C320WS source scope identifies a hardware version. Keep that distinction when choosing storage.
Preserve known exclusions
TP-Link identifies ADATA cards marked A1/V10 and a Samsung 256 GB EVO Plus marked U3/V30/A2/SDXC1 as incompatible. Do not shorten that second exclusion to every Samsung card or assume a similar-looking EVO Plus is an endurance recommendation. If the packaging does not identify the series and capacity clearly, resolve the identity before ordering.
The FAQ asks buyers to use authorized sellers and test the card after purchase. A marketplace listing title does not prove the supplied card is genuine. Check the selected seller, packaging, return process and manufacturer support route. Avoid used or refurbished cards for this task, following TP-Link's buying guidance.
Test recording without treating it as app playback
Install and format the card using the camera manufacturer's instructions. Check that the camera recognizes the full capacity, creates a new recording and can retrieve it in the manufacturer's supported playback route. Keep any recording you need before reformatting because formatting can erase it.
A successful card test proves neither CameraViewer recording support nor archive playback. Those app features remain unconfirmed. Use the local-storage guide to choose where recordings live and the recording-system guide to separate camera, recorder and hub access.
Keep retention estimates honest
Recording duration depends on bitrate, resolution, scene activity and recording mode. A manufacturer's endurance-hours claim describes a testing condition or write-life estimate, not the number of days your camera will retain. TP-Link's duration table also uses average laboratory bitrates. Inspect actual recorded file sizes over a representative period before planning retention, then leave room for variation.
Keep the card's identity, camera hardware, firmware and test date in your private maintenance notes. Replace a card when the camera reports errors or the recording test fails; do not assume a working live stream means recordings are still being saved.
